B Tech or Bachelor of Technology is an undergraduate program for engineering education. The course duration is 4 years in India. After the completion of the course, the candidates are awarded the B Tech degree.
Eligibility criteria: To get entry into the B Tech program, you need to qualify any of the entrance tests like JEE Main, JEE Advanced, VITEEE, MHT CET or TS EAMCET. Eligibility to appear in the entrance exams and get admission to the B Tech course is clearing class 10+2 level with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as the core subjects. In some of the institutes, the cut-off marks in all the three subjects in the aggregate are 60%. However, the cut-off marks vary from one institute to another. You can also get admission to B Tech courses if you have a Diploma in Engineering. In that case, you will get lateral entry to the 2nd year of B Tech program. The course duration is of 3 years.
Specialization: You can do specialization in the B Tech program, from among Computer Science, Mechanical, Chemical, Aerospace, Civil, Ceramic, Electronics and Telecommunication, Instrumentations, etc. Each of the streams of specialization ensures the career path in that specified domain. There are some eminent B Tech institutes in India. Among the top institutes, IITs, NITs, and IIITs are considered a premium class. Candidates get better opportunities in the professional career in comparison to degrees obtained from other institutes. B Tech program is a skill-oriented program. It is based on the application of engineering in a practical way.
Skills required: To excel in the professional area after B Tech, some knowledge required are familiarity with industrial standards, teamwork, creativity, leadership skills, analytical and creative thinking, multi-disciplinary exposure, etc. apart from the core subject knowledge. In the modern scenario, computer and IT skills are very important along with subject material.
